Ted Reeder
Multimedia Fine Artist
Ted, a self taught artist with minimal formal training, comes from a long line of wood craftsmen, who were wooden ship fitters and cabinet makers in pre-emigration Germany. Growing up in a missionary family in post war Japan, he was strongly influenced by the art and culture of the Japanese society of that era. (1949-1955) Much of the simplicity of his art comes from the Zen perspective of life. From an early age, sculpture and drawing were ever present companions, providing an alternative world where imagination was king. He has a unique style that is multi cultural with a contemporary flair, owing to the multiple countries and cities that he has lived in. His first loves are sculpture and fine woodworking. Charcoal drawings, oil and water color painting and ceramic stoneware are also among his familiar friends. He strives to find the visual essence of life's encounters to portray from a a bold contemporary perspective.
